Key Points –

About

Summarize Spoken Text is pretty easy in PTE. During the test, you’ll listen to a talk for about 60 to 90 seconds. Then, you write a summary of what you heard. Your summary should be 50 to 70 words. Usually, there’s one or two of these questions in the exam.

Tips

  • When you listen, write down 5 to 6 important points. These should include the main topic and 4 to 5 key points. Usually, there’s one key point every 2 to 3 sentences. Afterward, use your notes to answer the questions.
  • If it’s hard to figure out the main points, try to write down as many sentences as you can understand (at least 5). This will help you gather information for answering the questions later on.
  • Remember, it’s really important not to make any grammar or spelling mistakes in your answer. Before you submit, always check your answer carefully. That way, you can make sure it’s correct.

Time Span

You have 10 minutes for each Summarize Spoken Text task, and this includes the time of the audio. You can see how much time you have left on the top right corner of your computer screen. Even if you finish before 10 minutes, you won’t get extra time for the next question. So, take your time, and always leave at least 2 to 3 minutes to check your answer before you submit it.

Practice Task

Before you do a mock or real test, try doing a whole set of questions to get used to them. You can use the OnePTE app on Android, or iOS, or website for practice. Also, remember to manage your time well.
