About

In this part of the test, you’ll usually listen to a lecture or dialogue, which is usually 20 to 70 seconds long. Then, there’s a beep, and one or more words are missing. After that, you have to pick the right one from 3 to 5 options. Usually, there are either one or two questions like this.

Tips

Select Missing Words questions don’t give many points in the Listening Section, so you don’t need to focus on them a lot for PTE preparation. When you’re listening, pay attention to the progress bar. As it gets close to the end, really concentrate on the last sentence. This will help you figure out what’s missing when you hear the beep.

Time Span

Select Missing Words questions don’t give many points. So, finish them fast to focus on more important WFD questions. If you’re sure about your answers, spend no more than 1.5 minutes on each question while the audio is playing. If you’re not sure, don’t spend too much time here. Just decide quickly after the audio ends and move on to the next question.

Practice Task

Before you do a mock or real test, try doing a whole set of questions to get used to them. You can use the OnePTE app on Android, or iOS, or website for practice. Also, remember to manage your time well.
