About

Test takers will read a passage of about 200 to 300 words. They’ll also see a question with 5 to 7 options. Their job is to pick the right answer based on what they read. Usually, there’s 1 or 2 questions for this type.

Exam Tips

PTE questions where you choose one answer from multiple options don’t contribute much to your overall score. So, it’s not the most important thing to focus on when preparing for the PTE test. The key is managing your time well, aiming to finish these questions in 1 or 2 minutes. Spending too much time here might leave you with less time for other important and time-consuming questions like FIB.

In multiple-answer questions, you gain 1 point for each correct choice, lose 1 point for each wrong choice, and get 0 points if you don’t choose any option. So, unless you’re very sure, try not to pick more than one answer for each question of this type.

Time Span

In the Reading Section, there’s one timer for all questions. So, if you spend a lot of time on one question, you’ll have less time for the others. It’s best to answer these questions quickly to have more time for the FIB questions, which are more important. If you’re confident about an answer, you can spend up to 1.5 minutes on it. But if you’re not sure, aim to spend no more than 1 minute just to make a rough choice from the options given.

Before taking mock or real tests, do a full practice session of Reading Section questions to become comfortable with them and to practice managing your time. You can practice on theĀ OnePTEĀ app onĀ AndroidĀ orĀ iOS, or on ourĀ websiteĀ too.
